Dubbin Motorsports with driver Kirk Wolf will be making their first appearance at the upcoming In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at the Pomona Dragstrip. The NHRA Finals is the last race of the 2023 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

The Dubbin-owned team has had a successful 2023 season, with Kirk Wolf and Dean Dubbin sharing the driving duties in the DMP Awnings, Kentex Roofing Systems entry. Even with the success both drivers have experienced, neither Dubbing nor Wolf has run enough races to be a contender in the Top Alcohol Dragster Championship points battle. The Lucas Oil championship was settled weeks ago when Julie Nataas won the Dallas race giving her enough points to hold off the challenge from Tony Stewart. But, the Dubbin Motorsports team has certainly opened some eyes at the races they have attended, showing that they have the talent and performance to be in the thick of the Series Championship fight in 2024 if they choose to travel and race on the NHRA tour on a consistent basis.

From The Team:

Dean Dubbin, team owner looks at the NHRA Finals in Pomona this way: “We are heading to Pomona looking to end the season with a solid finish. We have to continue to gain experience and knowledge in all kinds of track conditions. We are building a program that expects solid results every time out. We have the car, and the crew, and are quickly gaining the experience to be successful every time we go to the track. We want to end the season strong”.

Wolf talked about his first trip to Pomona and what he has been concentrating on to keep his driving consistent and sharp through the season: “This is my first time in Pomona. I haven’t even been to California before. The A-Fuel car is a lot different from the blower cars I have driven in the past. There is definitely a lot less going on, but each requires a different skill set to be consistently fast. I had to get used to pulling the fuel lever open and coming off the clutch consistently before staging. I have also really concentrated on my lights more. Going in as shallow as I can. The class is growing and has a lot of really good leavers.

About The Track:

The Pomona Drag Strip is not a full-time racing facility. The track sees very little action throughout the year, which can make for tricky conditions and challenging tuning decisions. The Pomona racing surface was freshly ground and polished in 2022 which has equalized the lanes somewhat. For years, the Pomona Dragstrip was a left-lane track with a bump in the right lane at the 330 ft. mark that made that lane almost impossible to negotiate. The track surface will get considerably better throughout the weekend as it sees hundreds of runs daily by cars competing in the dozens of NHRA categories.

The race gets started Thursday morning with the Alcohol cars on track late in the afternoon about 4 pm for their first round of qualifying. Qualifying for the Alcohol Classes continues on Friday at 2 pm and 6 pm. Saturday Eliminations get underway around 11 am with Round two slated for 6 pm. Sunday Final Eliminations for the Alcohol cars are scheduled for 1 pm and 4 pm.
